Bras and the War Effort

If you've had the pleasure of reading one or all of the interviews from our shop owners you'll probably remember reading something about all the history surrounding vintage lingerie.  It's one of the things we love best about the stuff.  The story of history told from a uniquely woman's perspective.  In a country with so much excess, it's hard for someone today to imagine what it would have been like to live with a limited amount of a basic material  or resource.  And yet, this is exactly what happened during World War II...that is, until someone put her foot down.  Then, it became pretty obvious to the US government that they needed to keep the bossoms and morale high of their number one work force.  The materials may have become scarce, but resourcefulness was the name of the game and we all know that necessity is the mother of invention.

This post article link was submitted by Theresa of IntimateRetreat, our resident bra expert (and I do mean expert).  She has a passion for vintage brassieres and if you do, too, you should check in frequently at her shop,

Theresa says:  "Maidenform's War time efforts... read the first add. It is a crack up but that was life then!"
